Introduction to Books of Tafsīr

Project overview

This tafsīr project is a primer to the science of tafsīr. It introduces the major mufassirūn, their works and their methodologies. The aim is twofold: to introduce students to the different tafsīr works, as well as train students to actually use these works (not just know about them).

Alongside the write-ups, we are producing student workbooks that train students to use each tafsīr directly. These include questions (levelled for different abilities) that highlight the author’s methodology.

Each paper covers the following:

  1. 01The Biography
  2. 02General Methodology
  3. 03Detailed Methodology
  4. 04Best Prints of the Tafsir
  5. 05Excerpt from the Tafsir
  6. 06Methodology in Focus (Excerpts highlighting the author's methodology)
